This town may have the same zip code as Newport, but it does stand on its own. Croydon residents have a real sense of community, which can be witnessed at the Coniston General Store, at the neighborly celebration by the residents of Cash Street or during the tug of war at Croydon Community Day. There’s also a YMCA Camp Coniston in town, creating a community of campers year after year.

  • Serenity Carpets has a wonderful selection of carpets as well as wood, vinyl and tile flooring. They’ll also install.
  • If you’re in the market for a hand crafted tomahawk or spear, try Trapper John’s Accoutrements on 114 Brighton Road.
  • And if you’d like to spend some money on home improvement, you can get a standing seam metal roof from Iron Horse Roofing, based in Croydon.

NEW! Standing around on a frozen body of water may not be your idea of fun, but ice fishing on Spectacle Pond in Croydon isn’t just about the fish. It’s about friends and neighbors, too. Located on Route 10, near the fire station, Spectacle Pond becomes an ad hoc winter meeting place when folks gather around the fishing holes. So don’t be shy about taking a walk on the ice and saying “hello.”

There’s one stop in Croydon for food, and that’s the Coniston General Store at 870 Route 10. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the ice cream window serves Hershey’s ice cream in cones, sundaes and frappes.
