Named after Sir John Henniker, a London merchant of leather and furs, the village of Henniker retains all the old-fashioned charms that make up a classic New England town. Covered bridges span the Contoocook River. White clapboard churches and meeting houses dot the landscape. And the red brick mill factories, powered by water from the Contoocook River as late as 1959, still stand. Mix in the quiet campus of New England College, home to more than 1,000 undergraduate students, and an arched stone bridge named after a local poetess (Edna Dean Proctor), and what you find is a picture perfect small town.
