Vaudeville actor Billy B. Van nicknamed Newport “The Sunshine Town” and he was right on the money. There’s a happy (and historic) downtown with shops, restaurants and activities for everyone. A walking tour of Main Street will direct you to 45 historical landmarks (46, if you count the Frederick W. Lewis Mansion on Cheney Street).

    NEW!
  • Get ready for the snow season with a new snowmobile from Crazy Ed's.
  • Rocky Cannoli's Red Farm Barn & Bakery will provide the pies, cookies, cakes and breads for your holiday parties or family get togethers.

NEW!
Soon as it’s cold enough for water to freeze (was that yesterday?) you can get your ice skates out of the closet and head to the town Common in Newport for a classic New England activity in a classic New England setting: ice skating on the town green. The warming hut will be open to the public Monday to Thursday, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and it won’t cost you a thing. No hockey sticks allowed, though, so please eave those at home.

Authentic Mexican food can be found at Lil’ Red Baron Mexican Cantina, located next to Parlin Field in Newport. Enjoy tacos, nachos and enchiladas or, for the less adventurous, North-of-the-border options like hamburgers and fries.
